WHM (Web Host Manager) allows server administrators to manage DNS settings for hosted domains. Whether you need to configure nameservers, update DNS records, or troubleshoot domain resolution issues, WHM provides the necessary tools.
Understanding DNS in WHM
DNS (Domain Name System) translates domain names into IP addresses. WHM includes a DNS management system to control domain resolution and ensure proper functionality for hosted websites.
Key DNS Features in WHM
- Edit DNS Zone: Modify DNS records for hosted domains.
- Set Up Private Nameservers: Register and use custom nameservers.
- Manage DNS Zones: Add, remove, and modify domains in the DNS system.
- Check Propagation: Ensure DNS changes are updated globally.
How to Manage DNS in WHM
1. Access WHM
Log in to WHM using:
https://yourserver.com:2087
Enter your WHM root credentials.
2. Edit DNS Zones
- Navigate to "DNS Functions" > "Edit DNS Zone".
- Select the domain you want to manage.
- Edit records such as A, MX, CNAME, or TXT.
- Click "Save" to apply changes.
3. Set Up Custom Nameservers
- Go to "Basic WebHost Manager Setup".
- Enter your custom nameservers (e.g.,
ns1.yourdomain.com,ns2.yourdomain.com). - Ensure the IP addresses are assigned correctly.
- Register the nameservers at your domain registrar.
4. Add a New DNS Zone
- Go to "DNS Functions" > "Add a DNS Zone".
- Enter the IP address and domain name.
- Click "Add Zone" to create it.
5. Troubleshooting DNS Issues
- Use
dig yourdomain.comornslookup yourdomain.comto check DNS resolution. - Flush DNS cache using:
ipconfig /flushdns (Windows)sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches (Linux) - Verify nameservers are correctly set up at your registrar.
